^{Dept. of} Chemistry

The journey of the Department of Chemistry, Tufanganj Mahavidyalaya, started in 1994 with only the B.Sc. general course under the (1+1+1) system and affiliation with the University of North Bengal. After a gradual infrastructure development, the Honours in Chemistry commenced in 2016. In the meantime, the college's affiliation was also changed from North Bengal University to Cooch Behar Panchanan Barma University in 2015.

Since 2016, four batches of Chemistry honours students have passed out with excellent results and are pursuing their PG courses either in various reputed Universities, IITs, and NITs. The department has three faculty members who are the main pillars guiding students, and only one laboratory assistant who is always available to assist during practical sessions and project work.

Most of our students coming from village areas belong to not so economically sound backgrounds; have developed deep insights in theoretical Chemistry and flourished practical skills while sharing just one laboratory for organic and inorganic practical sessions and an add-on tiny set-up for physical chemistry practical sessions along with the necessary chemicals and instruments to continue the Undergraduate Chemistry Honours Courses under the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS).

• To enhance the recognition of our institution nationally and internationally by maintaining the Outcome Based Education (OBE) in chemistry.
• To build a strong relationship with society by solving real problems using fresh minds loitering around different avenues of Chemical sciences.

• To provide the best education in chemistry by implementing ICT-enhanced pedagogies in teaching and encouraging young minds to discover their aptitudes both in theory and practical chemistry with real-life applications. 
• To develop our chemistry laboratory with all the modern facilities and instruments to promote an environment of research in chemistry.
• To provide all the facilities to encourage students toward research in Chemistry in their future education after UG as well as to groom them professionally, morally and ethically.
• To train students about ‘Green Laboratory Practices’ by applying Green Chemistry Principles in their regular practical classes as well as to encourage their ability to think about global climate change issues.
• To implement more Outcome Based Education (OBE) in chemistry. 
• To provide a better understanding of the multidisciplinary approach of the curriculum of CBCS by organizing more and more Intercollege as well as Interdepartmental Faculty Exchange Programmes.  
• To build up the society-industry-college tripartite link-up envisioning widespread benefits of Chemistry education.
